Ginster's factory at Callington, a non stop delivery from Bakewell, with a vital part for the production line means a very late lunch for me, but they made it well worth the wait, - their motorway snack foods are simply the best!

You can almost feel that chill in the clear winter air! Looking south down Callow Bank into a bright hazy sky. The ground rising on the left is Higger Tor, an Iron Age hill fort, and the distant mound is "Over Owler Tor" an outcrop of rocks which from a certain angle look just like a fort or castle. The cliff to the right is part of Millstone Edge, where the big millstones were quarried,- many can be seen half hewn from the rocks just as they were left when the work was abandoned.

After the hot dry summer the fishing pontoon at Ladybower Reservoir is high and dry. The distant viaduct carries the A57 westwards (left) over the Snake Pass, the "Sheffield" side of which is a very pretty drive, - especially on a motorcycle!

Quiet Lane above Lathkill Dale just south of Bakewell, this is my favourite route home from the Black Country, using the A515 to Yoxall and on through Ashbourne. A breath of fresh air well away from the fumes of the A38 or the M42 and M1.

Returning from Cardiff up the M5 on the very hot afternoon of 6 August 2003, I parked in the motorcycle compound of Strensham Services. When I came out of the services building I found a similar immaculate rig parked next to my machine. I thought, is this an omen? What was worse I had run out of film !
|
I e-mailed Paul of Motorcycle Funerals to ask his permission to use an image from his website, he kindly sent me the top image, which he says was taken by a fellow undertaker Graham Wigley outside Stoke Newington Cemetery after a funeral. The bottom image is a simply detail from the top.

The machine is a Triumph Speed Triple.
